I fell...

He said I was beautiful
He said I was smart
He said I was perfect
He built a beautiful pedestal for me
And he demanded that I not fall off
But I did of course and it hurt
Because he walked away from the broken pieces
Sighing and shaking his head
Mumbling something like "I knew it..."
I sat and cried for a minute
To startled to realize
I still had the legs to get up and walk away
The eyes to see where I needed to go
The heart within my chest beating to let me know "you're alive so live"
The hand and arms to hold things and people close
The friends to keep me company when I was unperfect
And the will to say "no, no I'm perfect just the way I am"

«If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.» — Martin Luther King Jr.
